Toto Wolff Is Fighting For Lewis Hamilton To Stay At Mercedes: "We're Not Giving Up"

Questions are arising as to whether Lewis Hamilton will stay at Mercedes as his contract comes to an end.

Lewis Hamilton may be in the final year of his contract with Mercedes, but Toto Wolff, the team's Principal, is confident that the seven-time champion will remain with the team. In a recent interview, Wolff stated that the team is "sticking together," and he doesn't see that changing anytime soon.

Hamilton has previously hinted that he will extend his contract, and he is determined to win an all-time record eighth championship. Despite a disappointing start to the season, Hamilton remains a crucial part of the team, and the relationship between him and Mercedes is still strong.

When asked if he was considering backup options in case Hamilton doesn't sign a new contract, Wolff was quick to dismiss the notion.

"I think there is no point talking about the driver situation in 2024. That is far too early," he said.

Wolff believes that everyone in the team needs to push in the same direction, including the drivers, engineers, and management. The team has won eight constructors' championships and six drivers' championships with Hamilton, and the relationship between them is strong.

The start of the 2023 season has been a difficult one for Mercedes, with Hamilton finishing in P5 and George Russell in P7. However, Wolff is optimistic and believes that the team can turn things around.

"We never throw in the towel, and we will not be doing that now," Wolff said. "We need to dig deep and provide both drivers with a car that they're able to fight with. You almost feel for them."

Wolff is confident the team can bounce back after a difficult start to the ground-effect era.

"Even before the season-opening race, we knew that the W14 concept needed to change," Wolff admitted. "But we're not giving up. We're going to work harder than ever and provide our drivers with the best car possible."

While this sounds well and good, F1Briefings wonders just how much change they can make under the cost cap. Is it too late for the Brackley team?
