Logan Sargeant has suffered from a big crash at the very end of SQ1 of the sprint shootout session, causing the first red flag of the day.

Thankfully he is ok, but the Williams is going to take a lot of work to get it back to working order for the sprint race this afternoon. Annoyingly for the American driver, he had been able to put in a time to go through to SQ2 as the eleventh fastest, but he will be unable to continue.

Whilst on a flying lap, Sargeant raced around Turn 15 to be met by Carlos Sainz in the Ferrari, who is thought to not have been on a flying lap, was going slower on the apex than Sargeant expected causing him to go wide and clip the wall.

The red flag meant that the other drivers had to abort their final flying laps, meaning that Zhou Guanyu, Valtteri Bottas, Yuki Tsunoda, Pierre Gasly, and Nyck de Vries were knocked out of SQ1.

If Williams can fix Sargeant's car in time for the Sprint race later, he will be starting in fifteenth position on the grid.

This raises the issues from drivers such as Max Verstappen who has said that the sprint races are not worth the risk to the cars.

We will wait for further updates from the Williams team as to whether Sargeant will be taking part in the sprint race.
