It has been reported that Honda is in negotiations with the Aston Martin F1 team to become their engine partner from 2026.

Honda is currently in a contract with Red Bull as their engine supplier until 2026. The Austrian team are then looking to create their own engines with Red Bull Powertrains and Ford as their technical partner.

With this leaving Honda to form a new partnership elsewhere, the Japanese company has already hinted to multiple teams expressing interest in collaborating. However, it has now been revealed that they are talks with Aston Martin for an exclusive deal.

The Silverstone-based team currently has an engine deal with Mercedes. Toto Wolff, Mercedes CEO and team principal, is also an investor in the British team, so this has raised questions over whether this would affect his stake in the team or cause a rift between the two parties.

Only time will tell if Honda and Aston Martin will be able to come to an agreement over the terms of an exclusive contract, however, with the teams current performance it is clear why Honda are interested in working with them.

The British team has made significant improvements in performance from 2022 to 2023. Fernando Alonso has managed to finish third in all three races so far this season leaving him third in the drivers' standings with 45 points, along with Lance Stroll in sixth in the standings with 20 points. In the constructors' championship, Aston Martin are currently in second with 65 points behind Red Bull with 125 points and ahead of Mercedes in third with 56 points.
