F1 Rumour: Lando Norris And Oscar Piastri To Leave McLaren For Greener Grass

Both drivers have been rumoured to be leaving McLaren for the likes of Red Bull and Ferrari.

Lando Norris, the esteemed British driver known for his impressive stint so far with McLaren, has reportedly inked a preliminary agreement with Ferrari, according to journalist Jack Plooij. Oscar Piastri is also expected to make a move to Red Bull after a successful start to his rookie season.

With his noticeable success in McLaren's distinctive papaya-hued car, it's no wonder other teams have their eyes set on him, despite his existing contract with McLaren running until 2025.

Even with the increasing interest, McLaren is committed to retaining Norris. And, as it stands, there doesn't seem to be much incentive for Norris to swap his McLaren seat for one at Ferrari with his car sitting reliably behind the RB19 currently in terms of performance.

On being asked who could potentially replace Ferrari's Carlos Sainz if he decides to move to Audi, Plooij responds:

"Lando Norris, because I think he has a pre-contract at Ferrari," Plooij admitted to Ziggo Sport Race Café. "I think there is a clause in it, that he can activate himself whenever he wants" the journalist noted.

The rumor mill isn't just spinning for Norris; it also has something to say about his young teammate Piastri. Robert Doornbos speculated at the same time that the young Australian prodigy might be headed to Red Bull, thanks to the efforts of his manager, Mark Webber.

"That wouldn't surprise me one bit," he commented.

The performance of Norris and Piastri in recent races has been a clear indication of their talent and potential. Their competitive edge with McLaren's race car has been evident, with both drivers consistently battling at the front for podium finishes over the last couple of races.

However, it remains a question whether these drivers would willingly leave a team where their performance has been commendable and continually improving.
