F1 Rumour: Lewis Hamilton Is Taking Key Mercedes Technical Team To Ferrari

Ferrari's strategy seems to have a much wider scope.

Speculation has been rife about Lewis Hamilton's move being aimed at enticing key figures from the Mercedes team. It appears that these rumors are materializing, with suggestions that Riccardo Musconi, the senior race engineer for George Russell at Mercedes, might also make the switch to Ferrari alongside Hamilton.

Musconi, who previously worked as Hamilton's performance engineer and later served as the race engineer for Valtteri Bottas and George Russell, is anticipated to play a crucial role in Ferrari's preparation for the upcoming 2026 regulations.

Last year, Frederic Vasseur took on the role of team principal at Ferrari, aiming to overhaul operations at Scuderia Ferrari. His leadership has already made waves with the recent signing of the seven-time Formula 1 champion from 2025.

Not only that, the strategy behind Hamilton's hiring appears to have broader implications. Persistent rumors suggest that his move was also intended to lure key personnel from the Mercedes team.

It seems that these speculations are turning into reality. According to Gazzetta.it, Peter Bonnington, known as 'Bono', is reportedly another figure poised to make the move to Ferrari alongside Hamilton. Bono currently serves as the senior race engineer for Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes.

In addition, Loïc Serra, the performance director at the Mercedes AMG, is also being reported to make the big leap from Mercedes to Ferrari alongside Hamilton. Consequently, Wolff was shocked by Hamilton's decision to switch teams in 2025, knowing that several Mercedes staff members would follow suit.

Despite maintaining friendly relations with Hamilton, he explained that he was unaware of the reason behind the British driver's game-changing decision. Here's what he told the media:

“I only know that we were very aligned when we went into the Christmas period [in] what we said in public and in the team.

You need to ask Lewis why he changed his mind. How he framed it to me is perfectly understandable – he needed a new challenge, that he was looking for a different environment, and that it was maybe the last possibility to do something else.”
