F1 Rumour: Mick Schumacher's position at Haas under threat
Mick Schumacher's 2022 campaign has - by all accounts - been unsatisfactory so far, with the German driver not achieving any points.
Kevin Magnussen has (unsurprisingly) proven to be a far more significant challenge than Nikita Mazepin ever was, and Schumacher is struggling to compete with a far faster teammate.
Despite Magnussen's greater experience in F1, it is disappointing that Schumacher has been unable to leverage his far more significant preparation for 2022, both in the simulator and in testing.
Guenther Steiner has generally been protective of Schumacher, as is typical of most team principals and their young drivers. However, Steiner has recently made some slightly more critical - albeit very lukewarm - about the German's performances.
"With Mick, we obviously saw what happened", Steiner told the media post-race.
"It's not very satisfactory having a big crash again. We need to see how we move forward from here."
The phrase "not satisfactory" would accurately describe the 2020 Formula 2 champion's performances this year, in a season where Haas desperately needs points.
Haas are now legitimate threats in the midfield, and with Schumacher failing to score points (alongside strategic blunders from the team), they are set to underachieve with the package they have.
