F1 Rumour: Sergio Perez 2024 Contract Terms Revealed - Second Or Out

Sergio Pérez's 2024 contract with Red Bull Racing hinges on his ability to secure second place in the current season, with Daniel Ricciardo waiting in the wings as a potential replacement.

Sergio Pérez's future with the Red Bull Racing team hangs in the balance as contract terms for the 2024 season have potentially been exposed in a recent rumour. The Mexican driver, despite his renewed contract, faces an ultimatum that could see him replaced by Daniel Ricciardo next year if he fails to secure second place in the current season. This revelation comes after a series of disappointing performances by Pérez this season.

Key Takeaways:

  • Sergio Pérez must secure second place in the remaining five races of the 2023 season or face being replaced.
  • Daniel Ricciardo is set to take over Pérez's position if he fails to meet the team's target.
  • Liam Lawson, who impressed as a substitute for Ricciardo, could benefit from Pérez's possible departure.

Pérez's 2023 season has been marked by underwhelming results, pushing Red Bull Racing's patience to the limit. Sources close to the Austrian team exclusively informed GE.globo that Pérez received an ultimatum.

He must make a final push to secure the runner-up position in the Drivers' World Championship. If he falls short of this goal, his tenure with Red Bull Racing will come to an end, and Daniel Ricciardo will step into his shoes.

Despite having access to one of the most dominant cars in Formula 1 history, Pérez currently finds himself trying to out-score Lewis Hamilton, who is a mere 30 points behind him in P3. This performance gap is significant, considering that Pérez shares the same RB19 car with his teammate Max Verstappen, who leads the championship with almost double the points of his Mexican teammate.

Sergio Perez - Red Bull

Despite this rumour, a recent statement from Pérez himself has potentially quashed the speculations regarding his departure from Red Bull and Formula 1. In fact, the Mexican driver asserts that he intends to continue competing in the sport for an additional 3-4 years. He stated:

“Well, right now I have a contract for next year. And it will be important to have a good year.

"I have the motivation to continue, and I want to stay for more years.

"Because I believe that I still have a lot to give in Formula 1.

"I would like to stay in F1 for at least 3-4 more years.”

With few races left in the season, more than anyone, Perez understands the need to maintain high performance with these last races potentially being the most pivotal of his career.
