Birmingham Stallions Sign Former Dallas Cowboys First Round Pick, Lose Key Defensive Lineman

The Birmingham Stallions signed former NFL first-round pick defensive lineman Taco Charlton, while placing Willie Yarbary on the injured reserve list.

Taco Tuesday has a whole new meeting to the phrase for the Birmingham Stallions as they signed former NFL defensive lineman Taco Charlton. The Stallions also placed defensive lineman Willie Yarbary on injured reserve.

Charlton was selected in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. He played two seasons with the Cowboys before making various stops around the league. Charlton also played for the Miami Dolphins, Kansas City Chiefs, Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints. In 60 NFL games, he made 95 tackles, 11.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and three pass deflections.

During his college career for the Michigan Wolverines, Charlton racked up 93 tackles, 28 tackles for loss, 19 sacks, two pass deflections and one forced fumble in 46 games. He was named First Team All-Big Ten in his senior season in 2016 after being ranked 14th in the country in sacks with 9.5.

Yarbary is a big loss to the defensive line for the Stallions, having been a key member of the unit over the last two seasons in the USFL. He has made 70 tackles and seven sacks in 2022 and 2023. In 2021, he was in the NFL with the Los Angeles Chargers.

From 2015-18, Yarbary was on the defensive line for Wake Forest playing in 49 games. He finished with 116 total tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, two pass deflections and one fumble recovery.

While the loss of Yarbary will be felt for however long he will be gone, Charlton brings in a dominant pass rusher who has played well in the NFL. It may be too soon to see him in the starting lineup early in the season, but should he make the roster, Charlton will be one of the top defensive linemen in the UFL.

Birmingham still has to make some final decisions to the roster with UFL teams needing to be at 50 players by Saturday.
