St. Louis Battlehawks Sign Former Houston Roughnecks Starting QB

The St. Louis Battlehawks signed former Houston Roughnecks starting quarterback Brandon Silvers.

After the announcement of the St. Louis Battlehawks releasing quarterback Nick Tiano, UFL fans are waiting in anticipation for a potential AJ McCarron reunion to be announced. That didn’t quite happen this week, but the Battlehawks did sign a new quarterback in Brandon Silvers.

Silvers is a name XFL fans will recognize for his performance last season as the starting quarterback for the Houston Roughnecks. In eight starts, he threw for 1,551 yards with 13 touchdowns to nine interceptions. He led the team to a 7-3 record and a playoff appearance that ended with a loss to the eventual XFL champions Arlington Renegades for the South Division title.

Back in 2021, Silvers played for the Conquerors of the TSL throwing for 685 yards and nine touchdowns to just one interception. Silvers also played in the 2020 XFL as well with the Seattle Dragons, starting four out of the five games passing, and for 539 yards and six touchdowns to four interceptions. He started two games in the AAF in 2019 with the Memphis Express as well, with 799 yards through the air with four scores and two picks.

Spring football has been used to having Silvers slinging the ball around as a reliable starter. The 29-year-old quarterback is a good fit for what the Battlehawks do offensively, giving the team insurance for if things don’t work out with McCarron.

St. Louis currently only has Silvers and Manny Wilkins in their quarterback room. The Cincinnati Bengals announced the release of McCarron on Wednesday, which has left everyone suspecting a McCarron signing to the Battlehawks is soon.

The UFL’s training camp is set to begin Feb. 23 with St. Louis’ first game being against the Michigan Panthers on March 30.
