Reid Detmers Showing Ace-Level Skillset Through Two Starts For Angels

The Los Angeles Angels have been on a tear since dropping their first two games of the season to AL East juggernauts, the Baltimore Orioles.

The Angels are playing good baseball at the moment, and the same could be said for their starting left-handed pitcher, Reid Detmers.

In fact, you could say Detmers is pitching the best he's ever had, at least in this stretch. The southpaw is playing out of his mind through his first two starts, including his last start on Saturday against the Boston Red Sox, where he earned the win to move to 2-0.

What is working for the 24-year-old? After the game, Detmers spoke to Southern California News Group's Doug Padilla and said he's doing his best to keep his confidence at an all-time high.

"You just have to keep it going and keep your confidence high," said Detmers, who has 19 strikeouts in 11 innings. "Obviously there's going to be ups and downs but I came into this year just telling myself, 'You've got around 32 starts so just move on to the next.' That's kind of my mindset this year and so far it's gone pretty well."

Through two starts, Detmers holds a 1.64 ERA, 19 strikeouts, 0.82 WHIP, and has only allowed five hits and two earned runs in 11 innings.

The Illinois native has played out of his mind, and we'll see how long he can sustain this. The Halos have won five of their last six games and will look to sweep the Red Sox in this three-game series.
