Ron Washington Doesn't Want Credit for Team Meeting That Sparked Angels' Win Streak

After a rocky start to the season, the Los Angeles Angels are on a four-game winning streak. This win streak has been credited in part to an early season team meeting called by Angels manager Ron Washington after their second game.

The Angels lost both of their first two games to the Baltimore Orioles, falling by a combined score of 24-7 while allowing over 10 runs in each of those games. Washington called the meeting after the second disastrous loss, and the Angels have been undefeated since.

They defeated the Orioles 4-1 in the final game of the series and swept the Miami Marlins in three games this week. The Angels allowed four runs or less in each of these wins, including two or less in three out of the four wins.

Even with this marked turnaround, Washington doesn't want to take the credit.

“I don’t have to go between the lines; they do,” Washington said, via Jeff Fletcher of the OC Register. “If there’s any praise about our 4-2 record, it goes to the players. I didn’t hit. I didn’t catch. I didn’t run.”

Taylor Ward, who scored a home run in Wednesday's win over the Marlins, shared his take for what's changed.

“I think the guys have taken to heart the message he was trying to tell us,” Ward said. “I don’t think it’s a coincidence that we won the next four, but we’ve got to keep pushing, keep that mindset and keep playing.”
