Angels Rumors: Writer Proposes Trade to Get Superstar Pete Alonso in Anaheim

An All-Star talent for the Halos.

Headed toward an uncertain winter, the Angels have many questions to answer for themselves surrounding both free agency and the trade market.

On the latter front, one writer has an idea to shake up the roster - a trade with the Mets for one of their best players to pair with the talent on the team in Pete Alonso.

Trade Proposal: Los Angeles Angels get 1B Pete Alonso, New York Mets get RHP Caden Dana, OF Nelson Rada and SS Denver Guzman

Of course, finding help at first base won’t quite be the Angels’ top priority this winter. That’ll be re-signing Shohei Ohtani, which is going to cost hundreds of millions of dollars. With or without him, though, the fit for Alonso will be there.

Though the Halos just called up 2023 first base prospect in Nolan Schanuel, it might not hurt the team to get more proven major league commodities.

This notion becomes more increasingly apparent when considering the fact that immediate major league help to aid Shohei Ohtani haven't even warranted a playoff appearance for the Japanese superstar.

Whether it be injuries or inconsistent play from veterans, the Angels have failed to build a contender around their superstars in both Mike Trout and Ohtani for nearly a decade at this point in time.

From the Mets' first baseman, they'd be getting a clear power bat and home run hitter, the likes of which the Angels haven't seen since Albert Pujols nearly a decade ago.

Obviously retaining Ohtani's services would be key to any sort of playoff relevance for Anaheim, but some protection in the lineup wouldn't hurt him or Trout in the slightest.

Though veteran contracts haven't exactly panned out for the franchise lately, it definitely wouldn't hurt to try with the man known as the Polar Bear — he would also make a solid contingency plan if Ohtani walked in free agency.
