Anthony Rendon Dealing With Groin Issue, Out of Angels Lineup for Now

Not exactly the start to spring he was looking for.

Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon tweaked his groin in Sunday and hasn't returned to the lineup since. He's not in the lineup on Tuesday against the Dodgers, and won't play on Wednesday either, per manager Ron Washington.

Washington did add that he's not concerned about the groin issue, and is hoping Rendon can return on Thursday as long as the discomfort subsides.

Minor injuries in spring training are not uncommon, especially as players ramp back up to real game action.

However, it's never a great sign to see Rendon hurt this early in the season considering he's dealt with ample injury problems over the last three years.

Rendon has played in just 148 games over the last three years combined, and hasn't played more than 60 games in a season since joining the Halos in 2020.

The team is hoping to finally get the version of Rendon they gave a seven-year, $245 million deal to, but they need him to be healthy in order to contribute on the field.

Hopefully this is just a minor groin issue, and Rendon is able to return to the lineup by the end of the week.

Opening Day is a little over three weeks away, and Rendon is off to a slow start this spring, going 2-for-10 with zero runs batted in.
