Mike Trout Will Not Be Traded This Offseason, Says Angels GM
Entering the offseason, the biggest narrative that surrounded the Los Angeles Angels other than the free agency of Shohei Ohtani, was what the team would do with star outfielder Mike Trout. With another poor season last year, there was talk about the team potentially putting Trout on the trade block this winter.
The Angels could be heading into a transitionary phase of the organization, especially if Ohtani leaves, and it could make sense to start a rebuild. But the issue is that Trout is still owed over $37 million each year over the next seven seasons.
Most teams wouldn't dare trade for him unless the Halos agreed to eat a good portion of the contract. So, even with all the buzz about a potential trade, it remains unlikely.
And Angels general manager Perry Minasian put to bed all the rumors on Tuesday, saying that the team would not be moving the star this offseason.
This was always the most likely outcome, but it's now clear. The Angels can move on with their offseason, and build around their star player going forward.
Trout has dealt with many injuries over the years, and it has caused problems for the team. But when he is healthy, he remains one of the elite players in the game today.
He did have a down season last year, at least by his crazy standards, but they are hoping that he can bounce back this year. Trout hit .262 with 18 home runs and 44 runs batted in over 82 games played.
Injuries saw him miss the majority of the second half of the season, and this offseason is being used as a chance to figure out how to keep him healthy. The Angels still believe in Trout, and they made that very clear with the notion of a trade not taking place.
