MLB Insider Expects Angels to Have Similar Offseason Approach to Last Year

Angels are looking to acquire depth this offseason

The Los Angeles Angels have quite the offseason. They are not only trying to re-sign reigning two-time AL MVP Shohei Ohtani, but they are also retooling a roster that was decimated by injuries last season.

Per ESPN's Alden Gonzalez, the Angels offseason will be very similar to years past as they will look to acquire depth and fill in as many holes as possible.

Last year, the Angels were very busy in trying to build a roster that would stay healthy and help Ohtani and three-time AL MVP Mike Trout win by bringing on starting pitcher Tyler Anderson, right fielder Hunter Renfroe and infielders Gio Urshela and Brandon Drury.

Unfortunately, Ursehla played until June when he suffered a torn groin injury. Drury also played until June when he suffered an Achilles injury that kept him out until Sept. Renfroe failed to meet expectations thus leading to him being designated for assignment towards the end of the year and Anderson failed to meet performance expectations and is now on the trading block.

As of right now, both Drury and Anderson remain on the Halos roster yet the team still needs help in the outfield, infield, and both starting and relief pitching.

There has been speculation that the Angels will be very aggressive this offseason and could look to acquire talent via trade or free agency. However, at last year's trade deadline, the Angels almost gutted what little they had of their farm in acquiring players like Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez, Randal Grichuk, C.J. Cron and Dominic Leone who all unfortunately contributed little to none during their few months in LA.

If the Angels do intend to keep their promise on being aggressive, they have been linked to acquiring Tim Anderson, Dylan Cease, Cody Bellinger and Blake Snell.
