In this story:

2023 has just not been the year for Jose Suarez. His best outing came against the Milwaukee Brewers where he allowed just two hits and no runs bot outside of that, he's been virtually unplayable in the starting rotation with a 9.62 ERA through six games with the Halos this season.

He recently suffered a shoulder injury in his most recent outing against the Texas Rangers that saw LA get demolished 8-16. With a trip to the IL and his absence being indefinite, the Angels now have a hole in their starting pitching lineup that must be filled. All fingers have been pointed towards the Angels' former top prospect Chase Silseth that has slowly been implemented into the system but Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer has other options on mind.

Jaime Barria has been with the Halos since 2018 and last saw starting action in 2022. He has been able to post a 2.21 ERA in nine games and 20 innings played this season and Rymer hopes to see him granted a bigger role soon.

"Though the Angels are

likely to use

Chase Silseth in Suarez's spot, we submit that it should be Jaime Barría who gets another look as a starter. To be sure, the righty is working in relief because he mostly struggled as a starter between 2018 and 2021. But he's remained stretched out enough to handle multiple innings, and his 2023 story is the opposite of that of Schmidt, Flaherty and Houck in one respect."

Rymer also pointed out Barria's history of finding success against lefty batters.

"That's in how Barría has conquered his platoon split, as he's holding lefty batters to a

career-low

.570 OPS. That's over a small sample of 33 matchups, but it's still a good excuse for the Angels to give him another shot at starting before calling on somebody else."

Even if he is not granted the starting role right now, Barria just needs to keep making the most of his opportunities right now and he'll get back there eventually.
