Angels Sign Veteran Infielder to Minor League Deal

The Los Angeles Angels are taking a swing at former top prospect and outfielder Cole Tucker. The Halos have signed the shortstop/outfielder to a minor-league deal.

Tucker is a former first-round pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2014 MLB Draft. He went into the 2018 season as the fifth-best prospect for the Pirates; however, his career has yet to pan out no matter where he's landed.

The 27-year-old is a career .216 hitter and has hit five home runs and 37 RBIs in his major league career. Tucker has a career .584 OPS. Since his 2019 debut, he's only played in 159 games and has taken 444 at-bats.

Tucker's latest stop was with the Seattle Mariners. In late January, he signed a minor league deal with Seattle. However, he was not in line to make the Mariners' Opening Day roster out of spring training, and was released in mid-March.

The Halos will give him another crack at the big leagues. So far, he has not lived up to the hype. Now he'll look for a new opportunity with the Halos' minor league system.
