Potential Houston Astros trade target Shane Bieber received bad news on Saturday as the right-hander will undergo Tommy John surgery.

The 28-year-old Bieber looked like himself in his first two starts of the season, throwing 12.0 innings with 20 strikeouts and 0 earned runs given up. His velocity was there and it was an encouraging sign.

However, Bieber felt something was wrong and that happened to be the case, causing him to miss the remainder of the season.

For the Astros, Bieber was a potential trade option at the deadline. Instead, they'll have to find another arm who can give them valuable innings, similar to what he would've.

There aren't many arms similar to Bieber on the market, but one who could be interesting to watch out for is Freddy Peralta of the Milwaukee Brewers.

After the Brewers traded Corbin Burnes, it's likely the team will head in a different direction soon, which could mean they'll move Peralta and others during the deadline.

Peralta, 27-years-old, is set to become a free agent in 2025, so moving him now could be wise. He was named an All-Star in the 2021 season and has impressed since, posting four straight seasons with an ERA below 4.0.

In the 2023 season, Peralta posted a 3.86 ERA in 165 2/3 innings pitched, striking out an impressive 210 hitters.

The right-hander has done everything he's been asked to do in Milwaukee and could have a positive impact with the Astros. If the Brewers season goes as expected, it wouldn't be surprising to see him available.

Houston should jump all over him if he does become a trade candidate.
