Houston Astros Experience Another Departure From Coaching Staff

The Houston Astros have lost another member of its coaching staff this MLB offseason.

The Houston Astros have experienced another loss in their coaching staff following the retirement of manager Dusty Baker and the hiring of Joe Espada to take the helm.

This time it's Jason Kanzler, an assistant hitting coach for the Astros, who has taken his leave and will be joining the Chicago Cubs front office.

The 33-year-old Kanzler is joining the Cubs and will become their new director of player development according to The Athletic

Kanzler is essentially taking Jared Banner's role with the Cubs after being promoted to an assistant general manager role on the Northside

For three seasons Kanzler has been on the MLB coaching staff and has helped develop a solid offensive foundation, one that helped lead the Astros to their second franchise World Series championship in 2022.

Prior to being promoted to the Majors as a coach, Kanzler served in multiple roles around the sport and was a minor league player until 2015.

He will not take his services and lead all of player development for the Cubs, a significant increase in role as Kanzler obviously eyes more for his career. At just 33 years old, one can expect much more out of him barring a disastrous stint with Chicago.
