Michael Brantley is expected to play a rehab game for Triple-A Sugar Land this weekend.

If all goes well, the veteran outfielder could soon return to the Houston Astros.

It’s unclear which day Brantley will play for Sugar Land, though Sunday looks to be the most probable option.

Brantley had right shoulder surgery last August and was out through the postseason. He did take live batting practice while rehabbing at the team's spring training facility in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Brantley did not appear in a Grapefruit League game this spring.

The last time Brantley played a game for the Astros came on June 26 last season.

“Like everybody else, I’ve been hitting in the tunnels,” Brantley told reporters during spring training. “Everything is going well. I kind of like where my swing’s at right now. I think I’m too ahead of schedule with my swing, but I feel good where it is. Now we’re just making adjustments of timing and contact points. It’s all been good, all trending in the right direction.”

If Brantley can return soon, it’ll be a big lift for the Astros. Another veteran player who’s a true professional will help in a variety of ways.
