The Toronto Blue Jays' bullpen just took a major hit.

The team announced that David Phelps will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery on his right lat yesterday.

The 34-year-old reliever pitched in 10.1 innings for Toronto this season allowing just one run for a 0.87 ERA.

Phelps signed a one-year contract with Toronto during the offseason to re-join the club after pitching in 17 games with the Blue Jays in the second half of 2019.

His last appearance for Toronto came on May 5 against the Oakland Athletics, but Phelps did not record an out and was subsequently placed on the IL with the lat strain.
