After hiring Don Mattingly as the club's new bench coach this winter, the Blue Jays have reportedly made another administrative move involving a touted MLB veteran.

Victor Martinez will join Toronto's front office as a special assistant this year, reports Jon Morosi of MLB Network. It's unclear how Martinez will help out, though Morosi notes the 44-year-old Venezuelan is familiar with Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins and president Mark Shapiro from the trio's shared time in Cleveland.

Martinez could add wisdom to a few fronts. He's widely considered one of the greatest switch-hitters in baseball history, so he has a strong understanding of the craft. Beyond that, Martinez was a very popular teammate during his playing days, and he figures to improve the Blue Jays' relationships with Latin American players.
