Cardinals Could Trade For White Sox Flamethrower After Stellar Start To Season

St. Louis should look into trading for the young White Sox fireballer

The St. Louis Cardinals could use a little more help in the bullpen.

St. Louis currently has the 12th-ranked bullpen in baseball right now with a 3.63 ERA in 15 games. The Cardinals have shown some flashes so far this season, but have had an up-and-down start to the campaign.

Although the 2024 campaign still is new, soon enough it will be trade season. Rumors will start to pick and some big names surely will be on the move. One club that could end up being sellers ahead of the trade deadline is the Chicago White Sox.

Chicago currently is one of the worst teams in baseball with a tough 2-12 record through 14 games played. The White Sox already have started to be mentioned in trade rumors and one player who could be on the move is young flamethrower Michael Kopech, according to USA Today Sports' Bob Nightengale.

"The White Sox may have a valuable trade chip on the market this summer with Michael Kopech, who has been lights out since being moved to the bullpen," Nightengale said.

Kopech is just 27 years old and boasts a fastball that eclipses 100 miles per hour. He was moved to the bullpen this season and has shined with a 2.16 ERA in six appearances so far this season. He's under team control until 2026 and could go a long way in helping the Cardinals' bullpen.

St. Louis is loaded with talent but the bullpen still could use some work. If the White Sox end up trading Kopech, the Cardinals could make a lot of sense.
