Ex-Cardinals Outfielder Is 'Ideal Fit' For White Sox After Strong 2023 Season

The White Sox could be in the market for a new outfielder

Although Opening Day has come and gone, there still are a few intriguing outfielders looking for their next home.

The best remaining free agent at this time arguably is veteran outfielder Tommy Pham. He spent the 2023 season with the New York Mets and Arizona Diamondbacks and had a strong year, but for some reason hasn't found his next opportunity yet.

It sounds like that finally could change, though. The Chicago White Sox have been dealt some significant blows this season already and could be in the market for a new outfielder and have been linked to Pham by USA Today Sports' Bob Nightengale.

"The Chicago White Sox privately believe that prized center fielder Luis Robert Jr. could be out for 3-4 months with his Grade-2 hip flexor strain, another blow to an offense already without DH Eloy Jimenez," Nightengale said. "The White Sox will explore the market for reinforcements with free-agent outfielder Tommy Pham still available and perhaps an ideal fit."

Pham was selected in the 16th round of the 2006 Major League Baseball June Amateur Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals and has had a solid big league career over the last 10 years. He spent the first four-plus seasons of his career with St. Louis and also has spent time with the Tampa Bay Rays, San Diego Padres, Cincinnati Reds, Boston Red Sox, Mets, and Diamondbacks.

The 36-year-old certainly could help the White Sox out if they decided to sign him. He clubbed 16 home runs and drove in 68 runs last season in 129 total games. Somehow he still is available but that could change soon.
