Cardinals Receive Rough Injury Update About Glove Glove Award Winner

St. Louis can't seem to catch a break on the injury front

The St. Louis Cardinals certainly have been bitten by the injury bug this season.

St. Louis seemingly has never been fully healthy at any point this season. The Cardinals began the 2023 campaign with Adam Wainwright on the shelf and eventually were dealt injuries to outfielders Lars Nootbaar, Dylan Carlson, and Tyler O'Neill to name a few. St. Louis entered the 2023 season expecting to be World Series contenders but inconsistent play and rough injuries certainly derailed the season.

O'Neill has dealt with multiple injuries this season and missed roughly two months due to a back injury. The 28-year-old returned to the Cardinals in late July and has been extremely impressive ever since but now is dealing with a knee injury. O'Neill was scratched from the Cardinals' lineup Tuesday and although it initially seemed like he wouldn't miss time, he was scratched again from the lineup Wednesday, according to the club.

The 28-year-old has had a roller coaster of a season, to say the least. O'Neill was red-hot to begin the 2023 season but a lower back strain put a damper on his season. The two-time Gold Glove Award winner also found his name in trade rumors seemingly all season. At one point it seemed like a trade was inevitable, but O'Neill remained with the Cardinals past the August 1 trade deadline. It's unclear what his role will be with the club moving forward or if he will be in St. Louis in 2024.

When he's been healthy, he's been impressive for St. Louis. Hopefully, he can return to the field shortly and get back on track.
