Cardinals Promote Top Prospect Acquired In Jordan Montgomery Trade

One of St. Louis' top prospects is climbing up the ladder

The St. Louis Cardinals were forced to make difficult decisions at this year's trade deadline that are still tough for fans to move on from.

One of the more prominent names to be traded away from St. Louis was left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery -- who was traded to the Texas Rangers alongside right-hander Chris Stratton in exchange for infielder Thomas Saggese, right-hander Tekoah Roby and left-hander John King.

The Cardinals had to part ways with a frontline starter but did receive a notable prospect haul. The most productive prospect acquired from the Rangers is climbing his way to the top after a recent promotion.

"Infielder Thomas Saggese has been transferred from Double-A Springfield to Triple-A Memphis," the Cardinals Player Development tweeted Friday.

Saggese has been hitting .331, with 20 extra-base hits including 10 home runs, 29 RBIs, and a staggering 1.065 OPS in only 33 games for Double-A Springfield.

The 21-year-old stud swings a powerful bat and can play third base, second base, and shortstop. His prominent bat has also placed him in the lineup as a designated hitter on multiple occasions.

It's promising to see Saggese putting up such staggering numbers as the Cardinals try to move on from losing one of their most valued pitchers in Montgomery.

Although losing Montgomery will continue to hurt for quite some time, at least Cardinals fans have a bright future in Saggese to look forward to.
