In this story:

It has finally happened and yes, it was after Opening Day. But the Chicago Cubs and star left fielder Ian Happ have agreed to a three-year, $61 million deal according to the team.

It's an excellent deal for a player who not only had a career year last season but embodies the club's standards and ideals. He is a leader on and off the field and at just over $20 million per year, Happ will get the chance to see this team into its contention window.

For weeks there has been speculation about when or if Happ would get extended. After Opening Day came and went, it seemed like extension talks were off the table until the end of the season.

Instead, the two parties came together and got it done. Already two games above .500 this year, this is another win the Cubs can add to the list.

Happ is here to stay!
