Cubs Reinstate Hendricks, Make Shocking Corresponding Move Ahead of Mets Matchup

The Chicago Cubs have reinstated starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks, but made a shocking corresponding move ahead of their matchup with the New York Mets.

The Chicago Cubs have reinstated starting pitching Kyle Hendricks, a remnant of their 2016 World Series run. Hendricks hasn't pitched since July 5, 2022, but he will take the mound on Thursday against the New York Mets

Jameson Taillon will be bumped back a day for extra rest, a move he could benefit from.

Hendricks is a fan favorite, but it remains to be seen what he has left in the tank at this stage in his career.

This is the last guaranteed year on his contract with a $16 million option or $1.5 million buyout for the 2024 MLB season.

The circumstances make him a perfect trade candidate, if he can prove to be serviceable over the next month of play.

In a corresponding move, the Cubs sent Nick Madrigal to Triple-A Iowa. Madrigal was a part of a high-profile trade with the Chicago White Sox.

To say his tenure on the North Side has been filled with disappointments is an understatement.

Still, Madrigal's demotion still comes as a bit of a shock at this stage in the season.

Chicago takes on the Mets on Thursday at Wrigley Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. CT. Hendricks will face Carlos Carrasco of New York.
