Dominic Fletcher On Competing Against His Brother in MLB

The Diamondbacks outfielder will share the field with his older brother for the first time in the big leagues this weekend.

This weekend will serve as an unforgettable experience for the Fletcher family. The two brothers, Dominic and David, will compete against each other in the big leagues for the first time in the stadium they grew up watching games in.

With Corbin Carroll on the mend with a right shoulder issue, the D-backs called up Fletcher for his second stint in the majors.

Dominic said he didn't know he would be playing the Angels until they told him the night before. "It's pretty exciting, especially a place we grew up coming to games here as kids."

"It's awesome" said David. "It's something we thought would happen one day, and it could be a special series."

It's a moment their father would have enjoyed, but he passed away earlier this month. "This would have been one of his proudest moments" said Dominic. "Every night he turned on the T.V. and had both our games going simultaneously, so to be here and watch would have been his favorite things". Their mother and a bunch of their friends will be in attendance tonight.

Since Dominic is a left-handed hitter while David is a righty, their discussions on hitting are more about the little things as opposed to swing mechanics.

The two brothers have already shared the  field together this year, as the two brothers played for Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic. It was the first time they played on the same team since Dominic's freshman year in high school. They've also faced each other in the minor leagues in a couple series between Reno and Salt Lake.

"It was a blast," said David. "First time we've played together since high school. The whole experience was cool, but getting to do it together made it even better."

In an interview earlier this month, Dominic said he enjoyed competing against his brother and see who gets the most hits on that day. Dom also said he was the superior athlete when asked on the spot and joked about stealing a hit from David. Family bragging rights might also be on the table, depending on the outcome of the series.
