Tommy Henry Takes on Royals in Quest for 5th Starter Role

The D-backs' left hander needs a good outing after two rough starts

The Diamondbacks host the Kansas City Royals today at Salt River Fields. The game will be broadcast on MLB.TV, with Steve Berthiaume and Bob Brenly on the call. Game time is 1:10 P.M.

Lineups

Royals at D-backs March 14

The D-backs are going with their starting lineup one through six in the order today. Emmanuel Rivera is taking a turn at shortstop, his second game at the position this spring. The team is trying to decide on their backup shortstop from among Rivera, Jace Peterson, Elvis Andrus and Blaze Alexander.  Geraldo Perdomo is out of the lineup for the third straight game due to a sore "lower half" after an awkward slide on a stolen base on Monday.  The D-backs will face right-hander Michael Wacha for the second time in five days.

Tommy Henry gets the start today in an effort to right the ship and cement his status as the leading candidate for the 5th starter's role. After two strong starts to open Spring Training, Henry has been hit hard in his last two, including five days ago by these same Royals.  He has a 6.55 ERA and 1.82 WHIP in 11 Spring Training innings.  Henry's closest competitor Ryne Nelson has been out-pitching him of late, but hasn't faced as many major league caliber hitters.

Henry will be followed by another 5th starter candidate, Bryce Jarvis, at some point. Miguel Castro, Ryan Thompson and Kevin Ginkel are among the relievers listed in the probables list.
