Marlins Lack of Power Highlighted By Shocking Stat

The Miami Marlins have a lack of power hitting, shown by this crazy stat.

The Miami Marlins have not been a team known for their power hitting over the past few years, but just how bad have things gotten?

The leader in home runs for the Marlins from 2017 through now is Giancarlo Stanton, with 59. Just one problem:

Stanton has been with the New York Yankees since 2018.

In that time span, the Marlins have finished all but one season in the bottom of the league in home runs. They finished dead last in both 2018 and 2019.

The current Marlin with the most home runs in that timespan is Jazz Chisholm Jr. with 55. He's not a power hitter by any means, not having any season with 20 or more homeruns, but has just been around long enough for them to add up.

Chisholm will break Stanton's reign at the top at some point this season, but Stanton is not the only former Marlin still sticking around since that timespan.

Brian Anderson (57), Garrett Cooper (52) and Jorge Soler (49) are also all gone.

Jake Burger is the best chance the Marlins have at a power hitter emerging, but that's if he sticks around in Miami after this season. He's currently sitting at eleven since joining the Marlins last season with 34 total in 2023.

The Marlins did address the lack of power in the 2023 MLB draft when they drafted Kemp Alderman out of Ole Miss in the second round.

His MLB prospect page lists him as the Marlins' eighth best prospect and expects him to break into the MLB in 2026.

The team should prioritize adding power-hitting prospects through trading and free agency.
