The losing streak reaches nine as the Miami Marlins drop another game to the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 3-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Here's what you need to know from the contest

Trevor Rogers has another weak start

Rogers has not been able to reach the level of success that he did in his 2021 campaign that saw him make the All-Star squad and finish second in NL Rookie of the Year voting.

He only had four starts in 2023 due to a bicep injury and had a 4.00 ERA, an improvement after his ERA ballooned to 5.47 in 2022.

Things look rough to start 2024 as he sits with a 5.40 ERA through two outings. He gave up three runs against the Cardinals, only two earned but the other came in on a error committed by Rogers.

He desperately needs to improve his strikeout-to-walk ratio as it is currently at 9-to-7.

Emmanuel Rivera gets his first hit as a Marlin

The Marlins made a move to acquire Rivera from the Arizona Diamondbacks in return for cash considerations a few days ago.

Today, the corner infielder suited up and got his first hit as a Marlin. He actually reached first base in his two at-bats, also drawing a walk.

With Rivera in the lineup at third base, they had Josh Bell at designated hitter and Jake Burger at first base. Rivera could allow the Marlins more flexibility if they decide to move on from Bell and Burger via trade during the season.

It might be time to do something with Luis Arraez

Arraez finished the day 1-of-4 at the plate, grounding into a double play at a crucial part of the game with two runners on base.

He has been off to a slow start at the top of the rotation for the Marlins this season. The normally reliable second baseman has just a .560 OPS this season. That number ranks seventh on the team.

Whether it be moving him down in the order or exploring a trade, something needs to change with Arraez.

A move down in the lineup could be used for some extra motivation as a temporary thing if he starts to pick it up soon.

Though, with the team likely heading towards a roster restructure amidst the poor start, it might be time to cash in on the the infielder's past success and bring in some top prospects.
