In this story:

The New York Yankees and Miami Marlins have already been trade partners once this season, could another move happen in the future?

The Yankees are off to a 6-2 start, but could still do some work with their pitching staff ahead of Gerrit Cole’s return from injury. That’s where the Marlins come in.

Bleacher Report proposed some landing spots for Marlins pitcher Jesus Luzardo, suggesting the Yankees as a possibility.

Here is the trade that was proposed by Bleacher Report: New York Yankees get LHP Jesús Luzardo; Miami Marlins get OF Spencer Jones (MLB No. 80, Yankees No. 2), SS Roderick Arias (MLB No. 82, Yankees No. 3), OF Everson Pereira (Yankees No. 6)

This trade would see the Yankees trade away three of their top 10 prospects in exchange for a top of the rotation pitcher.

Luzardo, just 26 years old, is coming off of back to back seasons of an earned run average between 3.30 and 3.60.

He hasn’t had the best of starts to the 2024 season, with an ERA that’s up to 4.35. He does do something that the Yankees need, however, strikeout batters. It's not time to panic and avoid him, though.

The Yankees currently sit towards the bottom of the league in strikeouts per nine innings (No. 29 overall) at just 7.31. Luzardo himself is at 11.3 in 2024 and at 10.2 for his career.

The biggest downside of this trade for the Yankees would be parting ways with Spencer Jones. He’s their best healthy prospect right now and would be a necessary piece in acquiring a younger arm for their rotation.

The two teams recently reached an agreement centered around utility player Jon Berti. With an existing working relationship, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the two sides try and reach a deal again soon.
