MLB Expert Points Out The Strengths Of The Miami Marlins

The Miami Marlins have some bright spots on their roster entering 2024.

The Miami Marlins have some bright spots on their roster that could help them return to the MLB Postseason this season.

Miami has not been active this offseason but they do seem set in a few different position groups.  On the Locked On Marlins Podcast, Craig Goldstein, Editor-in-Chief of Baseball Prospectus, was asked by host Peter Pratt about the bright spots on the Marlins roster.

Goldstein highlighted the offensive impact that Jazz Chishom Jr. and Luis Arráez bring to the lineup but he also spent some time highlighting the top four Marlins pitchers in the rotation. He did point out that there is a drop-off when it comes to their projections after the top four starters.

"With Jesús Lazardo, Braxton Garrett, Eury Pérez, and Edward Cabrera, you have just an incredible starting four," Goldstein said. "The problem for the Marlins is mostly don't project any pitchers to make every start. Very few of them do because of the way that baseball is trending. So once you get past Trevor Rogers and Max Meyer coming back from injury, once you get past those two in the fifth starter spot, this is where the Sandy Alcántara injury really hurts because it knocks everyone back a slot."

The Miami Marlins have also been testing out A.J. Puk as a starter this spring. While he's been off to a hot start in spring, his inning count will still be something to monitor once the season starts.

Baseball Prospectus has Miami projected to go 80-82 according to the PECTOA Projections.
