No Days Off: 76ers Reserve Had Late Sunday Session Ahead of Bulls Game

Paul Reed put in extra work on Sunday night.

In the 2020 NBA Draft, the Philadelphia 76ers found two key players for the future of their franchise in Tyrese Maxey and Paul Reed. Throughout their first few seasons on the Sixers, both players were acknowledged as some of the team’s hardest workers.

In year four, nothing has changed. That much was apparent on Sunday night when Reed took to Instagram to show that he was in the gym working late as the Sixers prepared for their upcoming matchup against the Chicago Bulls.

“I really love this [expletive],” Reed wrote on his Instagram story.

The Sixers made their way back home on Saturday night following a dominant 53-point win over the Charlotte Hornets. In past seasons, a blowout victory might’ve been the only chance Reed would have to pick up notable minutes in a game since he was inconsistently in the rotation.

However, he collected fewer than 14 minutes on the court in Saturday’s game, as Reed has established himself as Nick Nurse’s go-to guy to back up the veteran center, Joel Embiid.

The Sixers got the day off on Sunday since they wrapped up a back-to-back, but the work didn’t stop for Reed, who had energy for more.

This season, Reed has appeared in all 25 of the Sixers’ games. He’s averaging 14 minutes off the bench, finding comfort in a new system while having a steady role beyond the G League for the first time in his pro career.

On Monday, Reed is slated to take on the Bulls with the Sixers for the first time this season. The 18-7 Sixers are searching for their seventh-straight win. Meanwhile, the 10-17 Bulls are attempting to stay on track after a slow start to the year.
