76ers vs. Grizzlies: Tyrese Maxey’s Playing Status on Wednesday

Will Tyrese Maxey face the Grizzlies on Wednesday?

Heading into Tuesday night’s game against the Brooklyn Nets, the Philadelphia 76ers ruled out their star guard Tyrese Maxey.

It appears they’ll do the same for Wednesday night’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies.

With little time to rest and recover, the Sixers will have to face the Grizzlies without their starting guard once again.

What’s the Latest on Maxey’s Injury?

When the Sixers battled it out with the Dallas Mavericks over the weekend, Maxey slipped and fell into a defender. On his way down to the floor, Maxey's head collided with his opponent’s knee.

For a bit, Maxey remained on the floor in pain. He managed to walk off the court and back to the locker room area to get evaluated. Not long after his evaluation, Maxey received clearance and returned to the game.

The Sixers’ star returned to the court before the start of the fourth quarter. He finished last Sunday’s win over the Mavericks with 24 points in 39 minutes.

After the game, 76ers head coach Nick Nurse was under the belief that Maxey would be fine moving forward. That remained the case initially leading up to the Nets matchup as Maxey was left off the injury report at first.

However, hours before the game tipped off, Maxey was downgraded to out and sent home from Brooklyn. Before Tuesday’s game, Sixers head coach Nick Nurse described Maxey’s symptoms as mild and delayed. As expected, the guard is in the NBA’s concussion protocol.

Maxey’s timeline for return is currently unclear. Being that he’s out for the second-straight game on Wednesday, his next chance to compete would come on Friday, March 8, when the Sixers host the New Orleans Pelicans
