Kelly Oubre Expected to be Back Around Sixers in Coming Days

Sixers forward could be a spectator at practice this week

Over the weekend, the Philadelphia 76ers were given tragic news regarding forward Kelly Oubre Jr. While walking around in Center City Philly, he was struck by a vehicle and sustained an injury.

Oubre was discharged from a Philadelphia hospital after a few hours. The veteran forward suffered fractured ribs. As of now, Oubre is set to be re-evaluated in a week.

Before the Sixers' matchup with the Indiana Pacers on Sunday night, head coach Nick Nurse provided an update regarding Oubre's condition. He said Oubre is back home resting and should be back with the team as a spectator in the coming days.

"He is home resting, fairly comfortably. It's kind of where we are right now," Nurse told reporters. "He's gonna be back kind of to join with the team to be observing practice etc. by about Tuesday. I think we're gonna have about a week go by before we kind of re-evaluate where he's at and then we'll probably know a little better where he is and what the timeline looks like."

This traumatic incident is a massive setback for Oubre as he was shining with his new team. After signing with the Sixers just weeks before training camp, he instantly provided an offensive spark playing off Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. Through his first eight games, Oubre averaged 16.3 PPG on 50% shooting from the field and 37.8% from beyond the arc.

At this point, there is still no telling just how long Oubre will be sidelined for. The initial reporting cited he could be out for some time but is not expected to be done for the year.
