Patrick Beverley Reacts to Signing With Sixers on Twitter

Patrick Beverley looks forward to his next move.

The Philadelphia 76ers’ start to free agency has featured quite a few losses.

On the very first day the free agency floodgates opened, two now-former Sixers went off the board to join different teams. The veteran forward Georges Niang was the first domino to fall, as he inked a multi-season deal to join the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Former Sixers’ second-round pick Shake Milton was next off the board after landing with the Minnesota Timberwolves on a two-year deal. With multiple players out of the picture on the first day, the Sixers finally made their first acquisition on day two.

On Saturday afternoon, the Sixers signed the veteran guard Patrick Beverley. The guard technically broke the news of the signing himself by tweeting out his next move in free agency on his podcast’s Twitter page. Beverley then went ahead and tweeted on his personal account to show his excitement.

As free agency approached, the Sixers didn’t have much of a connection to Beverley, who was set to become a free agent after a short stint with the Chicago Bulls

However, in past seasons, rumors have suggested the Sixers could be suitors for Beverley’s services as he brings veteran leadership, defensive toughness, and reliable shooting in the backcourt.

Beverley started his NBA career with the Houston Rockets in 2012. After spending five seasons in Houston, Beverley was involved in the blockbuster trade that allowed the Rockets to acquire Chris Paul from the Los Angeles Clippers.

With the Clippers, Beverley carved out a solid role for himself over four seasons. During the summer of 2021, Beverley was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies and then re-routed to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

After one season in Minnesota, Beverley was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers last summer. During the season, Beverley moved to the Orlando Magic via trade. After a buyout, Beverley chose to sign with the Bulls on the open market.

Now, he’ll make the 76ers his official sixth team.
