Sixers Guard Reaches Rare Milestone in Season Finale vs. Nets

Kyle Lowry reached a milestone in the Philadelphia 76ers' win.

On Sunday afternoon, the Philadelphia 76ers took the floor in their final regular season matchup. During the game, one of the team’s guards achieved a historic milestone.

In the final weeks of the season, Nick Nurse has been deploying Kyle Lowry alongside Tyrese Maxey in the backcourt. This has allowed Maxey to focus on scoring while the veteran does most of the facilitating.

In the season finale against the Brooklyn Nets, Lowry finished with zero points but dished out a team-high eight assists. This marked a major achievement for him as he reached 7,000 assists for his career.

Lowry is just the 21st player in NBA history to achieve this milestone. He’s also the fifth active player to do so, joining LeBron James, Chris Paul, James Harden, and Russell Westbrook.

After being traded to the Charlotte Hornets, Lowry became a free agent following a buyout. The former All-Star decided to reunite with Nick Nurse and sign a deal with his hometown team. Since coming over to the Sixers, Lowry is averaging 8.0 PPG, 2.8 RPG, and 4.6 APG while shooting 40% from beyond the arc.

Aside from his on-court production, the Sixers sought out Lowry for his veteran leadership. As a former champion, he understands what is needed to win at the highest level. That experience will come in handy moving forward as the Sixers look to contend in the Eastern Conference.

The Sixers haven’t secured a spot in the postseason just yet, as they have to go through the play-in tournament. They're slated to take on the team that traded Lowry away, the Miami Heat, on Wednesday night. The winner will lock up the No. 7 seed and take on the New York Knicks in round one of the playoffs.
