Although Milwaukee was not his preferred destination when he made his trade request away from Portland in July, Damian Lillard has ultimately deduced that joining the Bucks makes perfect basketball sense. With two-time MVP Giannis and a couple of All-Stars in Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez, Milwaukee gives Lillard his best chance to add something missing from his stacked resume: an NBA title.

Best basketball situation

In an interview with Fox Sports’ Melissa Rohlin, Lillard said Milwaukee is the “best basketball situation” for him. With the aforementioned players and a cast of capable role players like Malik Beasley and Bobby Portis, the Bucks are a legitimate title contender.

“I think this is the best basketball situation for me,” Lillard said.

Even though Portland has had its fair share of success, the Blazers were never considered a serious title contender in the 11 seasons Lillard played there. Lillard has had notable teammates like CJ McCollum and LaMarcus Aldridge, but obviously, neither has the talents that Giannis has.

Incredible depth

The Bucks’ roster boasts of incredible depth at every position, giving Lillard a unique opportunity to have the ball in his hands less and still thrive offensively. With Giannis, Middleton, and Lillard sharing the floor, Milwaukee will be one of the most feared trios in the league. It remains to be seen how all three players can fit together when the games matter most, but so far, Lillard's transition has been relatively seamless.

“The depth is what makes me think this is my best chance to win. We’ve just got to be healthy, and we’ve got to be together,” Lillard added.
