The Houston Rockets have a ton of financial flexibility this offseason, and according to a report on The Athletic, management isn’t afraid to spend some money to bring the team to the next phase of their rebuilding project. The Rockets’ decision-makers have apparently set their eyes on wooing the Milwaukee Bucks’ sentinel, Brook Lopez, amongst many other free agents.

Bolster their roster

The Rockets have a young, talented roster that oftentimes lacked veteran leadership. This is where someone like Lopez can come in and provide not only scoring and elite rim protection but a calming presence that can help guide the team in the right direction.

There’s no doubt, though, that Lopez adds some shooting, as he hit over 37% of his threes this season. However, it’s the 35-year-old’s defense that may bring the Rockets to the next level. After all, Lopez finished second in the race for the Defensive Player of the Year, losing the coveted award to Memphis’ Jaren Jackson Jr.

Will Lopez leave?

The more pressing question, though, is will Lopez leave the Bucks? An unrestricted free agent this offseason, the Stanford product will undoubtedly generate plenty of interest in the market. If Lopez departs, the Bucks will have some big shoes to fill on both sides of the ball. With his veteran presence and leadership, and stellar defensive play, Milwaukee may struggle to replace him in time for the beginning of next season.

Will Lopez leave, though? With the Bucks, the 7-footer has a prominent role and a supportive environment that has helped him blossom. But if the price is right, Lopez may be lured away to a more serious contender. Ultimately, the decision is up to him. Only time will tell what he decides.
