The pool of candidates for the vacant head coaching position of the Milwaukee Bucks continues to get deeper with the addition of University of Houston head coach Kelvin Sampson and Washington Wizards assistant Joseph Blair. According to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the Bucks have already interviewed Sampson, who was previously an assistant coach in the NBA for six seasons, including three with the Bucks.

Turned the University of Houston around

Sampson, though, carried out his best work at the University of Houston, where he’s been the head coach since 2014. During his time there, the Cougars have gone to the NCAA tournament six straight times and made the Final Four in 2021. Overall, Sampson has compiled an astounding 232-74 record with the Cougars.

The 67-year-old brings with him a wealth of experience. Aside from being an assistant with Milwaukee, he was also an assistant with the Houston Rockets from 2011-2014 and has also had coaching stops at Washington State, Oklahoma, and Indiana.

Joseph Blair is in the mix

Another experienced candidate is Blair, who has been an assistant with the Wizards for three seasons. Before that, he served as an assistant coach for Minnesota and Philadelphia. The 48-year-old has also led the Rio Grande Valley Vipers to the G League championship in 2019.

To date, there has been no word yet as to who the favorite for the position is. The Bucks are expected to make a decision soon as they are in need of someone to lead the team back into contention for next season.
