The Milwaukee Bucks boast of one of—if not—the most formidable starting five in the entire NBA. Led by two-time MVP winner Giannis Antetokounmpo and flanked by All-Stars Jrue Holiday, Khris Middleton, and Brook Lopez, they have been a force to be reckoned with ever since they won the title in 2021.

Nonetheless, when considering the performance of his teammates, the fifth starter, Grayson Allen, has been rather lackluster in comparison. A report by Bleacher Report recently dove into why the Duke product is the Bucks’ starting five’s weak link.

Solid player

Allen is by no means a bad player. In fact, he has been incredibly productive when given the opportunity to play, as he averaged 10.4 points and shot 39 percent from three. He added 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, proving he can find ways to produce. It just so happens that the star power surrounding him is truly exceptional.

“This is another example of a player who's here by little to no fault of his own,” Andy Bailey wrote. “Allen is a solid floor spacer who's averaged 10.4 points and 2.1 threes, while shooting 40.1 percent from deep over the last four seasons. And while he isn't likely to ever contend for an All-Defense nod, he at least competes on that end.”

Fades to the background

“He just happens to be surrounded by one of the best starting lineups in basketball. Holiday is a perennial All-Defense contender. Antetokounmpo is a mainstay in MVP debates. And if health permits, Middleton and Lopez could both push for All-Star nods this season,” Bailey explained.

Compared to the stars that he gets to play with, Allen is but a footnote. Nevertheless, Allen is valuable for a Bucks squad that’s looking to regain lost glory. With his ability to shoot from deep and annoy the heck out of opposing wingmen and guards, he’s the perfect glue guy.
