Fans of Milwaukee Bucks memorabilia have the opportunity to bid on a rare Lew Alcindor-game-worn jersey. The auction, which begins on November 16th, is an online event hosted by Heritage Auctions, and the jersey is part of the Fall Sports Catalog Auction.

Iconic Bucks big man

Lew Alcindor was the Bucks’ top overall pick in the 1969 NBA Draft. He converted to Islam in 1971, reverting to the name Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. However, before that, he led Milwaukee to the 1971 NBA title, powering the Bucks past the Baltimore Bullets via a sweep, 4-0.

The jersey that is up for auction is the road jersey that bears the name “Alcindor” on the back, which was worn in the Bucks’ title-clinching victory in Game 4. In that game, Abdul-Jabbar had a heck of a game, tallying 27 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists. He was eventually named the Finals Most Valuable Player.

Alcindor also wore this same jersey during his rookie season and then the regular season and the NBA playoffs in 1971.

Authenticated

Collectors need not worry about the jersey’s authenticity as Sports Investors Authentication has thoroughly inspected the item and concluded through photo matches that it’s the same one that was worn in Games 2 and 4 of the 1971 NBA Finals. In addition, the jersey has a letter of provenance from the former equipment manager of the Bucks, Patrick McBride.
