With the Chicago Bulls re-signing Coby White and signing free agent Jevon Carter, the team now has two dependable guards who can run the team and hit outside shots consistently. This, of course, raises another question: what will happen to young guard Ayo Dosunmu?

Since he is a restricted free agent, the Bulls can match any offer that comes in for Dosunmu, and if they decide to do so, he will remain with the team. However, rumors have swirled around that the Toronto Raptors are interested in acquiring the 23-year-old from Illinois.

Need for a backup guard

The Raptors suffered a huge blow this offseason when their All-Star guard Fred Van Vleet signed with the Houston Rockets, leaving a gaping hole at point guard. Although the Raptors moved swiftly to sign Dennis Schroder, they still lack a reliable backup guard who can provide stability and leadership. This is where Dosunmu could come in handy.

According to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, the Raptors may move in on Dosunmu, who has shown flashes of brilliance in his two seasons with the Bulls.

"The Raptors have a lot left to determine after losing Fred VanVleet to the Rockets. Toronto did add Dennis Schroder as a replacement, and the Raptors, sources said, had also expressed interest in Bulls restricted free agent guard Ayo Dosunmu. It remains to be seen if Toronto will conduct further business to overcome the loss of its starting point guard," Fischer wrote.

Solid but inconsistent

Thrown into the deep end in January of 2022, when Lonzo Ball suffered the season-ending knee injury, Dosunmu has started 91 games in the last two seasons for the Bulls and produced mixed results, averaging 8.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. However, his three-point shooting proficiency dropped off, as he shot just 31 percent from three-point country, down from the 37 percent he shot during his rookie year.
