While nobody would ever make the mistake of doubting Alex Caruso’s skills or stature these days, it wasn’t the case back in high school. A TikTok user who goes by the handle Ted The Toy Collector shares the story of how he made the mistake of questioning Caruso’s talents and was met with consequences that he wouldn’t forget.

Scouting report

Caruso played high school basketball at the A&M Consolidated in College Station, Texas. It was there where Ted The Toy Collector crossed paths with the future NBA ace. The TikTok user said his coach had already warned the team about the 6-foot-4 guard’s skills. Despite this, he decided to test his luck and said something along the lines of:

“I’m like, ‘bro, him? This is the dude y’all saying are about to bust our a**? Y’all got me messed up. I ain’t going to lie, I was wrong. I had him messed up,” Ted The Toy Collector narrated.

Wrong move

Caruso then went on to show Ted and his teammates why he was a highly-touted four-star recruit in high school. He won the opening jumpball, had the ball passed back to him, ran up to the three-point line, and hit a booming triple to start off the game.

Moments later, he added a thunderous slam dunk, and it was then that Ted the Collector realized “there are levels to this sh*t.” Ted recalled that Caruso probably dropped 30 points on his team in the first half alone. He could have done more damage, too, had he been fielded in the second half.

Caruso went on to play for Texas A&M before moving on to the NBA in 2017. He won an NBA title in 2020 with the Los Angeles Lakers and signed with the Chicago Bulls in 2021.
