Lakers bringing back Caldwell-Pope, McGee

Having swung for the fences and missed in an attempt to sign add Kawhi Leonard to the tandem of LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the Los Angeles Lakers have gone to work in an effort to build around their dynamic duo.

After Leonard opted to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers, the Lakers signed Danny Green to a two-year, $30 million deal overnight Friday into Saturday morning.

Now, they are agreeing to deals to bring back Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and JaVale McGee.

According to Romana Shelburne of ESPN, the Lakers are expected to sign Caldwell-Pope to a two-year, $16 million deal, while also agreeing to a two-year, $8.2 million agreement with McGee.

The 26-year-old Caldwell-Pope, along with teammates James and Davis, is represented by James' childhood friend, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports. In two seasons with the Lakers, he has averaged 12.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.1 steals in 28.8 minutes in 156 games (97 starts), shooting 42.8 percent from the field, 36.5 percent from deep and 82.4 percent from the free-throw line.

McGee, 31, had the best season of his 11-year NBA career for the Lakers in the 2018-19 campaign averaging a career-high 12.0 points, along with 7.5 boards and 2.0 blocked shots in 22.3 minutes 75 games (62 starts), shooting 62.4 percent from the field and 63.2 percent from the free-throw line.
