Spurs sign forward Lyles after pulling offer to Morris
The San Antonio Spurs have rescinded their offer to free-agent forward Marcus Morris and have agreed to a contract with forward Trey Lyles, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
The deal between Lyles and the Spurs will be for two years, Wojnarowski reports.
The Spurs reportedly offered Morris a two-year, $19 million pact July 7, though two days later, rumors of Morris reneging on that agreement to sign a deal with the New York Knicks surfaced. That became a reality Thursday night, according to Shams Charania of Stadium.
Lyles, 23, averaged 8.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 17.5 minutes in 64 games (2 starts) for the Denver Nuggets last season, shooting 41.8 percent from the field, 25.5 percent from deep and 69.8 percent from the free-throw line.
The 12th overall pick of the 2015 NBA Draft out of Kentucky by Utah, the 6-foot-10, 234-pound Lyles carries career averages of 7.6 points, 3.9 boards and 1.1 dimes in 17.5 minutes in 288 games (41 starts), with a shooting line of 43.1/33.1/70.5 in four NBA seasons.
