Allen tried to smooth over rift with Rondo, who 'didn't want anything to do with it'

During the 2012 playoffs when the Boston Celtics faced off against the Miami Heat, Ray Allen and Rajon Rondo had a blowup in the locker room which ultimately led Allen to leave the team in free agency that offseason. 

In an interview with NBC Sports Boston's Kyle Draper on Thursday, Allen said he tried to address what was happening with Rondo, but Rondo wasn't in the talking mood.

"He didn't want anything to do with it," Allen told Draper. "He didn't want to figure out whatever we needed to do. He was just being this person that was just like, 'You know what, screw you.' I said, 'Well whatever you feel, I'm trying to get down to the bottom of it. If I did something that caused you any type of harm or animosity, this is where we need to figure this thing out, because we have a lot of basketball left to play.' And he didn't want any part of it. That's where the fracture for me started, because you don't want to conversate with me. And we're the backcourt. We have to figure this thing out."

Allen felt that Rondo wasn't getting him the ball when he was open, and when he went to head coach Doc Rivers, Rivers said he had already talked about it with his staff.

"There were parts throughout the season where I was starting to like, feel this type of resentment towards me on the floor," Allen said. "And other people would tell me at first but I would ignore it because I don't like people getting into my team business but people would always say he looks you off. When you come off of a screen he sees you and he doesn't pass you the ball when you're open."

Allen signed with the Heat in the summer of 2012 and was part of the 2013 championship team. The sharpshooter and Rondo still haven't patched things up and likely never will.

Rondo and Allen won a championship together in 2008 when the Celtics defeated the Los Angeles Lakers.
