Kanter already recruiting Durant to Knicks

Kevin Durant re-signed with the Golden State Warriors in July on a one-plus-one deal, meaning the superstar can become an unrestricted free agent in 2019 if he declines his player option for the 2019-20 season. There have been small rumblings Durant may consider leaving the Warriors if he wins another championship and the New York Knicks have been mentioned as a possible landing spot for the two-time Finals MVP.

Durant's former Oklahoma City Thunder teammate, Enes Kanter, says even though he didn't like the way Durant left the Thunder to join the Warriors, he will still recruit Durant to New York.

“I’ve been hard on him the last two years,” Kanter said on Sirius XM Radio. “As soon as I learned he’s becoming a free agent, he’s my best friend. I can’t say enough of the guy. He’s the best scorer to ever play the game. Who wouldn’t want KD to wear a New York uniform?

“We are New York. He’s a free agent. We need to use that. We are the best city in the world. That could draw a lot of attention for free agents. I would love for him to be my teammate again. When he was my teammate [in OKC], he was an amazing teammate, amazing character, scorer and basketball player on court and off the court, too. I would love to see him be my teammate again.”

Kanter will also be a free agent in 2019. The big man is set to make $18.6 million this season.

Since joining the Warriors in 2016, Durant has won two championships and two Finals MVP’s. He is averaging 25.7 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.1 assists while shooting 52.5 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from three in 130 games with Golden State.
